AIMIM Seeks Greater Transparency and Voter Support in Telangana Electoral Roll Revision

AIMIM leaders met the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer and sought greater transparency, voter assistance and procedural clarity in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Asaduddin Owaisi demanded access to pre-enumeration data, multilingual forms, clear verification guidelines and broader document acceptance to ensure that genuine voters are not excluded from the electoral process.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Saturday approached the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), submitting a detailed representation seeking enhanced transparency, voter assistance and procedural clarity during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, AIMIM president and Hyderabad Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi said the party had raised concerns regarding the extensive pre-enumeration exercise already undertaken by election authorities across the state.

Owaisi stated that a large-scale pre-survey had been conducted and that lakhs of voters had reportedly been mapped during the exercise. He said the information collected through the pre-enumeration process should be shared with recognised Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to enable them to properly assist voters while filling out enumeration forms in the presence of Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

The AIMIM delegation also urged the Election Commission to issue pre-filled enumeration forms containing voter details from both the 2002 and 2025 electoral rolls. According to Owaisi, such a measure would substantially reduce the burden on voters as well as BLOs during the house-to-house enumeration exercise scheduled from June 25 to July 24.

Questioning the need for repeated data collection, Owaisi said that if voters had already been mapped during the pre-enumeration exercise, there was no justification for requiring them to provide the same information again during the revision process.

The party further demanded that enumeration forms be made available in English and Urdu in addition to Telugu. Owaisi noted that English is widely used in official communication throughout Telangana, while Urdu, the state's second official language, serves as the primary language for a significant section of the population.

AIMIM also called for a clearly defined Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to address potential anomalies that may emerge during voter verification. These include discrepancies in names, age-related mismatches and family-linking issues that could affect voter records.

Additionally, the party sought broader acceptance of government-issued documents for verification purposes and requested clarity regarding procedures for voters whose names are missing from the latest electoral roll.

Emphasising the importance of an inclusive process, Owaisi said the electoral roll revision exercise must remain transparent, accessible and voter-friendly. He stressed that genuine voters should not face unnecessary obstacles in securing their place on the electoral roll.

The demands raised by AIMIM come at a crucial stage of the Special Intensive Revision process, underscoring concerns over voter convenience, administrative transparency and procedural safeguards as election authorities prepare for the large-scale house-to-house enumeration exercise across Telangana.
